DNS servers are tools that simplify life in an incredible way. We do not realise it, but allow us to save a lot of time every day. There is plethora of information on how to speed up Internet browsing by changing the DNS on the computer. But little is available to take care of portable devices, namely smartphones and tablets, such as explaining how to change DNS on Android .

If you have a mobile phone (or tablet) equipped with the operating system of the green robot must need permissions to unlock gaining root. Without this step, unfortunately, you can not set custom DNS.

The procedure to unlock the terminals Android is not complicated, but it requires a bit 'of time and varies depending on the type of smartphone or tablet in your possession. It can also void the warranty, be careful!

Once unlocked your device you can change DNS on Android via some free apps available on the Play Store. If you're using a mobile animated by Android 4.4 KitKat you should turn to Override DNS for KitKat that allows you to apply custom DNS for the Wi-Fi and free data in just two "tap".

After installing it, Run it and presses the button "Grant" to grant root permissions. Subsequently expand the menu Choose from a predefined list, select the DNS server you want to use for your connection (eg. OpenDNS or Google ) and press the button Apply DNS now to apply the changes.

Alternatively, you can fill in the fields Primary and Secondary with custom addresses and always press on DNS Apply now to save the changes. Easier than that?

If you have a terminal equipped with an Android version below 4.4 you can change the DNS settings using the free app Set DNS whose operation is virtually identical to that of DNS Override for KitKat.

All you need to do after installing it is to press the button Grant, in order to authorize its execution with root permissions, select the server to apply to Wi-Fi and 3G connections (eg. Google DNS or Symantec) from the drop down menu located at the top left and press the button Apply to apply the settings. Look for custom addresses, sets the item Custom in the dropdown menu on the top left and enter the coordinates of the DNS server you want to use in the fields DNS1 andDNS2 .

There is also an add-on fee Set DNS, called Pro SetDNS that once purchased (2.76 €) allows you to change the DNS for Wi-Fi devices also do not undergo root. However, the procedure is not always successful.

Another way to change DNS on Android without unlocking the system is set a fixed IP.

The steps to be taken are as follows: went into Settings Android, select the item Wi-Fi and keep your finger pressed for a few seconds on the name of the Wi-Fi to which you are connected. Now choose the voice network Edit menu that appears, affix the check mark next to the words Show Advanced Options  scroll the screen down and select the IP Static menu IP settings .

Finally, scroll down once again, set the DNS server you want to use in the fields DNS 1 and DNS 2 and presses the button Save .
